Your Voice Matters in the 2026 Budget
The City of Calgary has released a preview of the 2026 budget, highlighting investments in areas that residents have identified as top priorities: housing, public safety, transit, and infrastructure.
Some of the key proposed investments include:
Housing: $78 million to support affordable housing projects, including a 260-unit project in Southview and downtown office-to-residential conversions.
Public Safety: $61 million for downtown safety initiatives, 911 operations, and support for Calgary Police services.
Transit: $59 million to improve service frequency, safety upgrades, and fare affordability programs.
Infrastructure: $68 million for roads, streetlights, parks, facilities, and the Plus 15 network, with $1.1 billion planned for water infrastructure and ongoing major projects like the Green Line.
The 2026 operating budget is proposed at $4.6 billion, funding everyday services such as police, fire, transit, and road maintenance.
The capital budget is proposed at $3.6 billion, supporting major projects and infrastructure upgrades, with a long-term five-year plan totaling $16.8 billion for essential infrastructure.
