Green Line LRT Downtown Segment Update: Have Your Say

  • Feb 10
  • 2 min read

The Functional Plan for the Downtown Segment of the Green Line LRT is underway to study an elevated route through the Beltline and downtown. This work builds on the Government of Alberta's plan and alignment. This is a long-term, multi-year process, with additional work needed to help the project advance beyond the functional plan to detailed design and then construction.

From February 9 to March 2, share your thoughts about an elevated Green Line LRT through the Beltline and downtown at a variety of engagement opportunities.

Your feedback will help inform a Functional Plan that will advance the design, validate cost estimates, and help us understand potential impacts to existing infrastructure.

There are a variety of ways to participate in engagement over the coming weeks, including in-person and online opportunities.

  • An online survey runs from February 9 to March 2. (Learn more HERE)

  • Virtual engagement sessions provide residents with an opportunity to hear directly from the project team, ask questions, and build understanding of the elevated concept. Registration is required.

  • In-person drop-in sessions will be held between February 18 to 22 in the lower level of Memorial Park Library at 1221 2 Street SW. No registration is required, but do check out the engagement page for confirmation of dates and times.

After engagement closes, the project team will share what they heard, how it is being applied, and how it influences technical planning.

The Functional Plan for the Downtown Segment

The Functional Plan is examining an elevated alignment between the Event Centre/Grand Central Station, along 10 Avenue S. in the Beltline and 2 Street S.W. downtown. This work builds on the concept developed by the Province of Alberta, and will validate the design and costs for an elevated route. Where possible, feedback received during engagement will be used to advance the design and recommendations for the Downtown Segment.

As part of the Functional Plan, the team is studying:

  • Station concepts and locations

  • How people will get on and off the trains at stations

  • If and how adjacent buildings and amenities may connect

  • Designs for the guideway that the trains will travel along

  • Options for how public spaces under the guideway might be used.

More details about engagement, how to register for virtual information sessions, and the schedule for drop-in sessions at the Memorial Park Library can be found at engage.calgary.ca/greenlinedowntown.
