Did you know? Calgary offers free, safe disposal for household hazardous waste through 11 drop-off sites around the city.

Many common products can be harmful or dangerous when disposed of in your blue, green, or black bin by mistake. When these items aren't disposed of properly, they can pose safety risks, cause fires, put waste collection staff in danger, or harm the environment.

Some of the most common household hazardous waste items include:

  • Batteries, chargers, vapes, and e-cigarettes

  • Cleaning products and household chemicals

  • Paint, stains, varnishes, and solvents

  • Motor oil, antifreeze, and other automotive fluids

  • Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and fluorescent light tube

  • Pressurized containers like helium tanks, propane tanks, or fire extingishers

  • Bear spray

The good news? Getting rid of these items responsibly is free, straightforward, and helps keep our city safe.
