Love Talking About Transit? Join Calgary’s New Transit Champions Network

2 min read

Calgary Transit is launching the Transit Champions Network, a new volunteer group that brings together Calgarians who are passionate about public transit and city building.

Members will be comprised of residents from across the city and represent a wide range of communities, organizations, and lived experiences, creating a shared voice to champion strong, reliable public transit.

What will the Transit Champions Network do?

Give community voices a place at the table. Members will share how public transit affects their neighbourhoods, organizations, and daily lives, and bring those real-world experiences directly to Calgary Transit.

Strengthen transit advocacy. Members will be equipped with shared knowledge and accurate information, and will help develop messaging that supports public transit. They’ll also help raise awareness and understanding of transit initiatives across the city.

Build collaboration. The network is a two-way space where Calgary Transit, residents, businesses, community groups, and local authorities can connect, bring forward ideas and strategic perspectives on transit challenges, and have constructive conversations about emerging opportunities.

Who can apply & what’s the commitment?

Any Calgarian who is interested in public transit and community involvement is encouraged to apply.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a Calgary resident

  • Be over 18 (two spots are reserved for designated youth representatives)

  • Be available for four in-person meetings each year, likely on weekday evenings, and be able to take part in activities between meetings

Calgary Transit is also looking for people who:

  • Regularly use Calgary Transit

  • Have experience with committees, community groups, or boards

  • Are passionate about public transit and city building

  • Can work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives

  • Can share ideas and experiences in a thoughtful, constructive way

Members will serve a two-year term and meet four times a year, with opportunities for additional activities between meetings.

Anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can apply. Calgary Transit will review applications using an evaluation matrix that considers eligibility requirements. All applicants will be notified once the selection process is complete.

Apply between October 14 - 27, 2026

Applications are open for two weeks, from October 14 - 27, 2026. If you ride transit, care about your community, and want to help shape the conversation about the city’s future, Calgary Transit would love to hear from you.

Know someone who would make a great Transit Champion? Please share this post with them. The strongest network will be one that reflects all of Calgary.
