Week in Review: November 17 -21, 2025

Updated: Nov 24

A busy week with plenty of firsts, thoughtful conversations, and a few highlights worth noting. Here’s a look back at what happened.

🔸At Monday’s Executive Committee meeting, a motion was introduced to repeal blanket rezoning. The Committee’s role is to review a Notice of Motion on its technical and administrative merits before deciding if it’s ready to be forward to Council. A majority voted to send the motion to the December 15 Regular Meeting of Council for debate and consideration. This is one step in a multi-stage process before a final decision is reached.

🔸On Tuesday, the first Public Hearing of the term was held, welcoming Calgarians into Council Chambers to provide feedback on proposed land use changes. Cllr McLean also brought forward an urgent Notice of Motion to discuss a ban on raising international flags outside City Hall. The motion was ultimately voted down, as the majority of Council did not view the issue as urgent. It will now follow the standard process and be reviewed by the Executive Committee in early December.

🔸Thursday marked our first Ward 3 town hall at Vivo. Residents came together to share feedback and community priorities, making for an evening of great conversation and connection. We’re excited to keep the dialogue going.

🔸Heading into next week, Council is set to review and debate the 2026 budget adjustments. These updates build on the four-year budget approved by the previous Council in 2022, so we expect targeted changes rather than a full budget rebuild. The next full four-year budget process will take place in November of 2026. Members of the public are welcome to join in person or online at Calgary.ca/live. We’ll share updates next week as deliberations get underway.
